Our  Junior Drama Club, Quercus Theatre Company, presented an enchanting evening of entertainment on 20th and 21st May bringing the magic of Peter Pan to the stage!

JM Barrie’s classic tells the story of Wendy, John and Michael Darling’s adventures in Neverland with the inimitable Peter Pan, 'the boy who would not grow up'. In Neverland, the Darlings are introduced to the Lost Boys, Peter’s jealous fairy friend Tinkerbell, the infamous pirate Captain Hook, and the crocodile who swallowed Hook's hand.

Quercus Theatre Company leader and Drama teacher, Lauren Brandwood, explained, “I chose ‘Peter Pan’ for this year’s Quercus production because it is a classic play that I grew up watching and reading—and I know the same is true for many students and even their parents. I wanted to stage something the students would truly enjoy being part of, and this play captures the fun and exciting nature of being a child. It is also highly relatable for our students, with the added bonus of offering fantastic opportunities for creative costumes and imaginative set design.

The Quercus Theatre Company aims to give all students the opportunity to be involved in the world of theatre. This could be through the costume design team, working backstage with our stage crew, or performing on stage. We have our largest cast this year, with over 40 students involved in the process, and we hope this is opening up the world of theatre to even more young people, helping to develop a lasting love of Drama.”

Emma (Year 8) who plays Tinkerbell is excited to be part of the show: “I enjoy playing Tinkerbell because through the play there is no other character like her. Tinkerbell is mute. This allows me to explore and create ways of expressing my character through movements and expressions. This role pushes me to be innovative and make Tink’s character my own. I think that Quercus is a great coco as it brings a large group of people who wouldn’t usually be together to be together. Within the lighting and stage crew and actors, everyone has a chance to share their ideas. Another reason I think Quercus is a great coco is because it gives you that drive of working towards something big that in lessons is not always possible.”
