It was a magnificent day on the Park on Saturday 27th June with our annual Music for a Summer’s Evening!
This event sees our community gather on Grove Field for an evening of music across all genres from our talented students and staff. Families, Old Leightonians and other members of the community often bring picnics, chairs and blankets to sit back and relax with whilst they take in the performances. It’s a lovely way to all come together as a community and celebrate music at Leighton Park.
The programme saw vocalists, soloists, string quartets, a rock band, the senior choir, brass ensembles, duets, pianists, and our Orchestra all have an excellent time performing to the crowds in the shinning sun. Alongside the music there was a handful of stalls run by our Parent and Staff Community (PSC). The BBQ and bar was there for all to enjoy, and next to them was a hugely popular ice cream van. A quiz was also running that tested everyone’s musical knowledge with a gift card as the top prize.
To add to the mix as well, it was our Director of Music & Media Rosemary Scale’s birthday which saw a few sneaky changes to the programme. ‘The Magnificent 9’ changed their piece to one of her favourite songs and the Orchestra started with a surprise performance of happy birthday!
For our Head, Luke Walters, this was his first Music for a Summer’s Evening. He enthused: “It’s been absolutely fabulous and I’ve enjoyed every single act! It’s just so relaxed and casual but at the same time so impressive from our exceptional young people. It’s certainly been an eclectic mix we’ve been hearing. A parent commented to me just now how they love the fact everybody is catered for. Whether you’re a Metallica fan, we’ve got a little bit of Jamiroquai going on in the background right now, there’s been some Bach too. There’s been a real variety and that’s exactly what you want from a concert.”
