Course description

The curriculum comprises five units, each designed to mirror real world production cycles:

Unit 3: Digital Media Skills (Externally Moderated): Students respond to a professional grade brief, demonstrating their ability to deliver a high quality media product that meets industry standards under moderated conditions.

Unit 20: Single Camera Techniques: This unit focuses on the technical mastery of cinema grade equipment. Students learn to handle professional cameras, advanced lighting, and stabilisation gear to produce sophisticated narrative content.

Unit 21: Film Editing: Editing is a critical technical skill. Students will explore the conventions of film and television, developing a professional portfolio that ranges from experimental sequences to industry standard trailer construction.

Unit 35: Multi Camera Techniques: Essential for television and live event production, this unit requires high level coordination and collaboration. Students will manage studio environments, live broadcasts, and complex production logistics, including scripts, cues, and camera plans.

Unit 10: Film Production – Fiction: As the culminating project, students take on the role of Director. This unit requires the synthesis of all technical skills; directing, cinematography, sound, and post production to deliver a complete narrative short film for their final portfolio.

Who is this qualification for?

This Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate is a Tech Level qualification, equivalent in size to one A Level.
